Rector Inaugurates Burhanuddin Muhtadi as Professor
FISIP Online – Rector of UIN Jakarta Prof Asep Saepudin Jahar inaugurates Prof Burhanuddin Muhtadi PhD as professor of Political Science at the Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) UIN Jakarta. The inauguration ceremony took place on Wednesday, (11/29/2023) at the Harun Nasution Auditoriuj, campus I of UIN Jakarta.
In his inaugural speech, Burhanuddin addressed the theme “Votes for Sale: Clientelism, Democratic Deficit, and Institutions,” which broadly touches on the issue of money politics in democratic countries during elections.
Based on his research, approximately 33% or 62 million out of the total 187 million voters included in the permanent voter list in 2014 were involved in money politics. He also added that sympathizer voters were the main target of money politics, constituting 15% of the total voters, while the remaining 85% were swing voters.
He also acknowledged that the vote buying strategy only influences the choices of 10% of voters, a number that is more than sufficient for candidates to win the general election.
“The average winning margin to defeat their rivals is only 1.6%. Therefore, the 10% (influence) can make the difference between a winning and a losing candidate,” he said.
On the same occasion, Rector of UIN Jakarta Prof Asep Saepudin Jahar in his address, stated that in the year 2023, UIN Jakarta inaugurated a total of 47 professors. He also expressed his pride in the appointment of professors, seeing it as a commitment by UIN Jakarta to the fields of Islamic studies and sciences.
“We seek continuous support to encourage and collaborate for the advancement of UIN in the future, ensuring that UIN remains steadfast and committed to the development of Islamic sciences and integration, contextualizing Islamic principles within the Indonesian context,” said Rector.
