JSF 2023: Invite Young People to Care about Education in ASEAN
The Indonesian International Relations Student Communication Forum (FKMHII) Region 2 Coordinator held the 2023 Joint Statement Forum with the theme "The Youths Contribution in Achieving ASEAN's Culture Education". The event, which was held from Monday to Wednesday, 22-24 May 2023, was attended by dozens of International Relations (HI) students from all over Jabodetabek at the FISIP UIN Building, Jakarta.
The Joint Statement Forum (JSF) is a discussion forum between IR students to jointly find solutions to specific issues related to international relations as its scope. The results of this discussion will be in the form of a draft communiqué which will be addressed specifically to the Indonesian government, so that later the wider community can experience the results of the agreed solution. This year, JSF was organized by HI students of UIN Jakarta in collaboration with HI students of Prof. University. Dr. Moestopo (Religious).
The series of activities began with a seminar presented by Rheinhard Sinaga, SH., LL.M. and M. Solahudin Al-Ayubi, S. Sos. In this seminar, Rheinhard Sinaga, who is a Diplomat at the Center for Policy Strategy for the Asia Pacific and Africa Region, explained that currently the quality of education in ASEAN member countries is still experiencing misalignment. This is because ASEAN has not fully focused and prioritized education issues. However, ASEAN member countries still have their own ways of achieving quality education in their countries.
Furthermore, Solahudin, who is active in various youth activities at the international level, said that youth are agents of change or bearers of change. The contribution of youth, especially from ASEAN member countries, is very necessary to achieve harmony in the field of education. He added that there is no right time to achieve this as long as young people still have the desire to achieve a better education.
The second and third days of JSF 2023 were filled with discussion forums between representatives of HI students from several universities in Jabodetabek. The forum, which lasted for two days, produced a draft communiqué containing policy recommendations which would then be submitted to ASEAN and the Ministry of Education and Culture for consideration of implementation. The scope of this policy recommendation is regarding improving the quality of education, teaching staff and workshops within ASEAN and Indonesia itself.
Rijal Maulana Sidqi, chairman of HIMAHI UIN Jakarta, believes that JSF 2023 is an effort to contribute to young people's contribution to the nation's educational development. "We are HIMAHI UIN Jakarta and Prof. University. Dr. Moestopo (Religious) will try and continue to oversee the draft of this communiqué until it reaches the designated institution. "Hopefully, the results of discussions and exchange of ideas by delegates from each university can be reviewed and considered as an aspiration," concluded Rijal.
