Conflict and Peace Building: Local and Global Context

The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is holding an International Seminar which will be held on Wednesday, June 21 2023 at 09.00-12.00 WIB. This event took place in the Prof. Auditorium. Bahtiar Effendy FISIP UIN Jakarta which was attended by the academic community of FISIP UIN Jakarta and students. The theme of this event is "Conflict and Peace Building: Local and Global Context".

Appearing as a speaker at this international seminar, Prof. Abu Bakarr Bahh (Northern Illinois University, USA), Dr. Ella S. Prihatini (Indonesian International Islamic University), and Dr. Mohammad Hasan Ansori (FISIP UIN Jakarta). The event began with remarks and introductions from the Dean of FISIP UIN Jakarta, Prof. Dr. Dzuriyatun Toyibah, M.Si., MA. The person acting as moderator is Dr. Riana Mardilla, MIR. (FISIP UIN Jakarta) with his characteristically enthusiastic demeanor.

The first speaker was Prof. Dr. Abu Bakar Bahh explains the Ukrainian war and the strategic shift in international relations that made multipolar peace possible. According to him Ukraine produced a strategic shift in international relations in a way that made the Ukraine war a tipping point in international security.

After that the second speaker appeared, namely, Dr. Mohammad Hasan Ansori who explained post-conflict democracy and peace building in Indonesia and the Southeast Asia region. “Conflict analysts consider Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Myanmar to be countries with a long history of conflict and violence in Southeast Asia. In continuing conflict and violence, it has become one of the most crucial global agendas and has received deep attention from world leaders, especially after colonialism and the cold war.

The last speaker to appear was Dr. Ella S. Prihatini who explained about women and building peace in Indonesia and abroad. women as negotiators, mediators, signatories, and witnesses increase the probability of an agreement lasting at least two years by 20 percent, and the probability of it lasting at least 15 years by 35 percent. "Countries with higher levels of gender equality are more likely to resolve problems peacefully and are less likely to use military action to resolve international disputes," said Ella.

After the resource person gave his presentation, a question and answer session was opened for students and lecturers. They seemed very active in asking questions to the resource persons and were enthusiastic from the start of participating in this workshop. The event closed by giving souvenirs to the speakers.
