FISIP Online – In order to enhance the academic competence of its students, the Sociology Laboratory of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at UIN Jakarta organized a seminar on the analysis of big data and qualitative data. The seminar, attended by hundreds of students and lecturers, took place on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the Aula Madya (Madya Hall) of FISIP UIN Jakarta.

This activity invites Aldy Rialdy Atmadja (Lecturer of Informatic Engineering UIN Bandung) dan Rusydan Fathy (Researcher at BRIN) as speakers.

In his presentation, Aldy Aldy quoted a statement from the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, who stated that Natural Resources (SDA) are no longer the wealth of the Indonesian nation. “In the midst of current technological advancements, data has become a new source of wealth for a nation,” he quoted.

He also explained that in the process of collecting data, there are three components that must be considered. First is Valid, meaning accuracy/precision in measurement. Second, Reliable, indicating consistency in measurement.

“And the last is that data must be Objective. Objective indicates the degree of perceptual equality seen by the researcher and others,” he said.

Big data itself, he continued, is used for many things that affect human life every day, ranging from Banking, Insurance, Retail, Telecommunications, Health, Entertainment, and Government.

“The government has and manages various types of data for various purposes, both related to administration and socio-economic aspects of society, population. Therefore, by analyzing this data, the government can draw conclusions about what problems need to be addressed immediately,' he said.

The next speaker, Rusydan Fathy, in his presentation, provided material on qualitative data analysis. He also explained and provided training on how to create coding to determine the focus of qualitative research directly to the seminar participants.
