Minister of Religion Inaugurates New Chancellor of UIN Jakarta
FISIP Online, the Indonesian Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas finally officially appointed the Chancellor of UIN Jakarta for the 2023-2027 period by inaugurating Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, MA, Ph.D. He was appointed to replace Prof. Dr. Hj. Amany Lubis MA who has completed his leadership period from 2019-2023.
This was conveyed by the Head of the General Administration and Personnel Administration Bureau of UIN Jakarta, Drs. Juanda Naim MH, who attended the inauguration. "Thank God, today, Wednesday, March 1 2023, there was the inauguration of the new Chancellor of UIN Jakarta, namely Mr. Professor Asep Jahar," he said.
Bureau Head Juanda hopes that the appointment of Professor Asep Jahar as Chancellor of UIN Jakarta will provide a new atmosphere and new enthusiasm. " The special obligation is related to what the Minister of Religion said so that UIN Jakarta continues to be a barometer (scientific and Islamic, ed.) and becomes a Legal Entity PTN university. "That was the target from the Minister of Religion to the new Chancellor," he added
"I and the other Heads of the UIN Jakarta Bureau are ready to provide support and contribute to what the Minister said so that UIN Jakarta becomes a baromter and PTKIN a Legal Entity. "Hopefully Allah will be pleased and give Professor Asep room and success," he said again.
The inauguration procession itself was held at the Indonesian Ministry of Religion Building, Jalan Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (1/3/2023). The inauguration of the PTKIN leadership was witnessed by the Expert Staff of the Indonesian Minister of Religion for Law and Human Rights Prof Dr H Abu Rohmat M.Ag and the Head of Research and Development and Training of the Indonesian Ministry of Religion Prof. Suyitno M.Ag. Also present were special staff of the Minister of Religion, the Director General, and officials from the Directorate General of Islamic Education at the Ministry of Religion.
It is known that Professor Asep is one of the professors on the list of candidates for Chancellor of UIN Jakarta for the 2023-2027 period. Together with him, 16 other professors are running for office, including the Chancellor of UIN Jakarta for the 2019-2022 period, Prof. Dr. Hj. Amany Lubis MA.
Before being appointed Chancellor, Professor Asep was Director of the UIN Jakarta Postgraduate School for the 2019-2023 period. He occupies this position to replace Professor Jamhari Makruf who was appointed deputy chancellor of the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII).
This professor, who was born in the small town of Menes, has held several other positions. These include the chairman of the Quality Assurance Institute (LPM), the Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH), and the Head of the Center for Public Relations and Legal Aid Services LP2M UIN Jakarta.
Apart from holding a number of structural positions at the university, Professor Asep is a Professor in the field of Sociology of Islamic Law. He taught a number of courses such as Introduction to Islamic Law , Islamic Personal and Public Law , Theories and Methods of Islamic Law , Comparative Islamic Family Law , and Contemporary Fatwas in the Muslim World .
He wrote a number of articles and academic books. Works in the form of books include Family Law, Crime & Business (2013) and Dualism of Islamic Marriage Law in Indonesia Fiqh and KHI (2021). A number of articles have also been published in various journals such as Socio-Political Dynamics of the Formation of the Halal Product Guarantee Law (2017), Governing Religion in Indonesia and France: Scope and Limits (2018), and Social and Religious Dimensions of Children's Inheritance in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Indonesia (2022); and others.
Asep studied undergraduate at IAIN Jakarta in the Department of Comparative Schools of Sharia Faculty (1995). Then he obtained a master's degree (S2) from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, in the field of Islamic Studies-Islamic Law (1999) and a doctorate (S3) from Leipzig University, Germany, in the field of Arabic and Philology (2005).
Before studying at IAIN, Asep was a graduate of Pondok Modern Gontor, Ponorogo, East Java. His basic education was taken in his hometown, Menes, namely SDN 1 Menes and SMPN 1 Menes Pandeglang, Banten.
