International Seminar: Gender Equality and Equitable Access to Justice for Women

FISIP Online,  Faculty of Social and Political Sciences is holding an international seminar which will be held on Tuesday, 08 October 2022 at 09.00 – 12.30 WIB. This event uses the Zoom and YouTube applications to meet face to face online. The theme of this event is "Gender Equality and Equitable Access to Justice for Women".

This event invited speakers, namely Prof. Rachel Rinaldo, Ph.D. (University of Colorado Boulder, USA), Rika Saraswati, Ph.D. (Soegijapranata Catholic University, Semarang), Windy Triana, Ph.D. (UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, Jakarta) and moderated by Iim Halimatusa'diyah, Ph.D. (UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta). This seminar event was opened by remarks from the Dean of FISIP Prof. Ali Munhanif, Ph.D. by greeting the speakers and seminar participants and providing an overview of the theme of this international seminar.

Prof. Rachel Rinaldo, Ph.D. became the first speaker to present the material by explaining that the divorce rate was among the highest in the world in the first half of the 20th century, but fell sharply in the second half of the 20th century. "With divorce divorce, women are entitled to several forms of distribution of large amounts of assets, but with divorce, women are only entitled to several forms of distribution of assets of small amounts," said Rachel.

Then the event continued with a presentation by the second resource person, namely Rika Saraswati, Ph.D. which explained that the judge handed down a light sentence to the perpetrator of domestic violence based on reasons: such as the incident being a "family matter" and the perpetrator being the breadwinner, causing family members to suffer even more due to the lack of family income.

The last resource person to speak was Windy Triana, Ph.D. which explains that it cannot be denied that the era of broader judicial reform that began after the fall of Soeharto in 1998 has brought significant changes to the judicial education system for religious court judges, and improvements have been made. however, the focus of judicial education is still on court procedures and administration.

Before the end of the event, a question and answer session was held between the participants and the resource persons. It can be seen that the participants from this international seminar were very enthusiastic about this event and actively asked questions for the speakers.
