Iim Halimatusa’diyah, M.A., Ph.D Appointed as Professor at FISIP UIN Jakarta

FISIP Online – The Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) UIN Jakarta has once again added to its professorial ranks following the appointment of Iim Halimatusa’diyah, M.A., Ph.D as a professor. Iim has been appointed as a Full Professor in the field of Development Sociology through the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Decree (Mendikbud Ristek RI) Number 52829/2023 dated September 18, 2023.

Iim completed her doctoral education in Sociology at Iowa State University in 2019, following her Master's degree in Sociology from the University of Birmingham in 2007 and the Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies program at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta in 2006. Her undergraduate education was in English Language Education at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta in 2003.

In addition to her role as an educator in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Science at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Iim is actively engaged in writing for various journals. She contributed to International Sociology with an article titled "Moral Injury and the Struggle for Recognition of Women Living with HIV/AIDS in Indonesia" in 2019. Apart from individual authorship, Iim has collaborated with several professors in the United States, publishing research results in the Journal of Rural Studies in 2018 with the title "Weak Winners” of Women’s Empowerment: The Gendered Effects of Livestock Assets on Time Poverty in Uganda".

She also collaborated on other works related to women's political representation and its impact on women's health, as well as women's representation and leadership in Sharia courts, which have been published in the Journal of Development Perspective and Social and Legal Studies. Iim also contributed to several other journals addressing social and religious issues.

Along with colleagues at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Science (FISIP) UIN Jakarta, Iim also co-authored a book on the Politics of Islamic Sharia in 2018, titled "Politik Syariat Islam: Ideologi dan Pragmatisme", published by LP3ES. As a researcher, Iim has a keen interest in issues related to Health, Gender, Family, Religion, Politics, and Social Development. Due to her expertise and research experiences, Iim was entrusted by PPIM UIN Jakarta to serve as the Research Coordinator for the MERIT Indonesia Project (Media and Religious Trends), a collaboration with the government of the Netherlands, from 2019 to 2021.
