FISIP UIN Jakarta Adds New Professor
The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at UIN Jakarta has added a new professor to its ranks. Dr. Achmad Ubaedillah, an educator at FISIP UIN Jakarta and also the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Brunei Darussalam, has been appointed as a professor in the field of Islamic Political History.
Achmad Ubaedillah completed his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Ushuluddin at IAIN Jakarta (now UIN Jakarta) in 1995 and continued with a master's program at the same institution in 2002. He began his career as a lecturer in Civic Education at FISIP UIN Jakarta. Achmad had the opportunity to pursue a master's program in Southeast Asian Studies at Ohio University, Athens, USA.
After graduating from Ohio University in 2004, he pursued a doctoral program in Southeast Asian History at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu, USA, while also participating in the East-West Center (EWC) fellowship program, a research and strategic studies institution at the university. He earned his doctorate with a dissertation on the tarekat movement in South Sulawesi in 2011. Upon returning, he resumed his service at his alma mater, focusing on his areas of interest: Civic Education, Islam and Democracy, and contemporary Islamic movements, particularly tarekat in Indonesia.
In addition to his role as a lecturer, he is also active as a trainer, curriculum developer, speaker, and consultant for various programs, seminars, and workshops on Civic Education and National Insight in several ministries and government and private institutions. Achmad has served as the director of the Indonesian Center for Civic Education (ICCE) at UIN Jakarta. He was the Education, Research, and Technology Attaché (Atdikbudristek) at the Indonesian Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for five years from 2017 to 2021, appointed by the then Minister of Education, Muhadjir Effendi. Under the current leadership of PBNU KH. Yahya Cholil Staquf, he has been entrusted with a position in PBNU's international body, the International Network Development Agency, for the 2022-2027 period.
